This is the last week to see an exhibit by Mark Messersmith at the Polk Museum of Art in Lakeland. He’s known for his dark, almost disturbing paintings of the current state of the environment here in Florida.

and a new Artist-in-Residence program has started at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smryna Beach where master artists teach a 3-week workshop. You have a chance to meet two of the artists this week composer George Lewis will give a presentation tomorrow afternoon at 2 he’s the Director of the Center for Jazz Studies at Columbia University. The world premiere of SWIMMING AFTER DARK is tomorrow night. The new play was the winner of annual script competition held by Women Playwright’s Initiative. It runs Thursday through Sunday at Rollins College’s Fred Stone Theatre.

A new film series begins tomorrow night at The Painter’s Daughter Gallery in Mount Dora. BABY FACE from 1933 begins the series which will focus on films about women’s struggles to overcome obstacles.
